In the small town of Cleveland, GA lives are impacted at Woodlands Camp. Woodlands Camp was founded in 1997 and has grown to serve about 10,000 youth annually. Their mission is to inspire and equip this generation to do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God. There are so many camps filling the North Georgia area, but what makes this camp so special? Ultimately it comes down to the camp counselors, who invest their summer to pour into the campers. Big Jon, the camp founder, does an amazing job filling their cups, so their hearts are equipped to serve each camper they meet.
These camp counselors are awesome! They spend about 10 weeks out of their summer serving at Woodlands camp. They sacrifice their phones, their personal plans, and time with friends and family to impact others. Their time at camp starts with 10 days of training. In addition to preparing their hearts and minds to receive all the campers, they are also doing manual labor to prepare the camp.
On May 16th, my son, Jasper, and I had the pleasure of showing a small thank you to the Woodlands staff through a King of Pops UMOH. It was a hot day, and they were hard at work preparing the property. Talking to these young adults was an absolute pleasure. They have a true passion for the mission of camp, and they performed all the work with smiles and laughter. They took the time to talk to my son about his experience at camp. He can’t wait to come back this summer to spend more time with these amazing young adults. Big Jon even took him on a private tour of the campus. It was truly an unforgettable experience.
This camp already holds such a special place in our hearts, but this made it even more personal. Who knew doing an UMOH would be inspiring my 13 year old for how he wants to spend his college summers. Unexpected moments of happiness are already our favorite things about working with King of Pops, but this one takes the cake. We hope we can make this an annual tradition of showing a small thank you for all these counselors do.
